The Ultimate Princess Celebration at Art of Entertainment
by Aidan B.

To celebrate the launch of Disney’s Ultimate Princess Celebration, Art of Entertainment has showcased some of our favorite Disney Princess characters, encouraging all ages and audiences to share acts of courage and kindness. Authors and artists from around the world have collaborated with Disney to compose new and inspiring stories, featuring the iconic heroines.

The aim for this story collection is to provide individuals with the opportunity and inspiration to carry out their own little acts of kindness and create a kinder world. The Ultimate Princess Celebration commemorates the simple philosophy that “in a world where you can be anything, be kind.” Art of Entertainment picked 3 of our favorite Disney Princess characters for the Ultimate Princess Celebration and the lessons that they can teach you.

Lessons to Learn from Disney’s The Little Mermaid

Ariel has whozits and whatzits galore and even 20 thingamabobs, but she still wanted more. To Ariel, these ‘things’ are not seen as meaningful, and she would rather invest in experiences than things - to her the trade of her voice for legs is worthwhile. Ariel’s story teaches everyone to have the courage to try something new and to get out of your bubble and explore.

The magical tale features Princess Ariel, with sidekicks Flounder and Sebastian at her side. Ursula attempts to ruin her love story with Prince Eric by stealing her voice. Ursula imitates Ariel and steals her voice so she can be where the people are, rather than living as a mermaid.

Possibly one of the most important lessons to take from Ariel’s story is that you should never sacrifice your voice in order to fit in and, feet or fins, you should stand up for what you want. Only once it was gone did she realize that was her most precious tool to fight for her rights and demand her freedom and fall in love.

Never underestimate the power of your own voice.

A beautiful piece of artwork created by Eric Dowdle is the Disney Little Mermaid - Part Of Your World depiction. This brightly colored canvas features the scene in which Ariel and Prince Eric are rowing in the blue lagoon together and Sebastian, Flounder and friends are encouraging him to ‘Kiss the Girl’. This colorful depiction of the romantic scene is a fabulous representation of Ariel’s life beneath the depths of the ocean and the life she longs to live with Prince Eric.

We believe, like Ariel needed to use her voice, so do you. Let your voice be heard, use it for good and don’t take it for granted. Remember, coveting what someone else has will not ever bring joy.

The Role of Jasmine as a Disney Princess

With an old law stipulating that the Princess must marry a Prince before her upcoming birthday, Princess Jasmine is instead determined to marry for love. Jasmine is the Princess of Agrabah, who represents independence, strength and is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She teaches young girls to be their own person and not to be what everyone else wants you to be. An important takeaway from Disney’s Aladdin is that you should have the courage to make your own rules.

The Disney Aladdin Celebration in Agrabah by Eric Dowdle features all characters good and bad within the artwork. The evil Jafar is featured overlooking Agrabah while Princess Jasmine and Aladdin can be found flying on the magic carpet above everyone painted in the scene. This portrait represents the beginning of the parade through the streets of Agrabah after the marriage of Princess Jasmine and Aladdin. Dowdle wanted to encompass a grand parade with all its wonder. When Dowdle was younger he was in a small town parade - he remembers bright colors, band music, loud sirens, horses and precision motorcycle groups. He believes that this painting is a bold and colorful celebration of life in all its variety.

The Courageous Skillset and Masterful Mindset of Mulan

The role of a Disney Princess is to do what is right when no one else can or will. When Mulan’s father has to come to terms with the fact that he cannot fight for his country, Mulan runs away to take his place. Although Mulan’s father is aware that this behavior could bring dishonor to him and his family, he is actually incredibly proud of his daughter and states “the greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter.” A beautiful father-daughter relationship. Mulan is good to her core and does not see another option but to do the right and noble thing.

There is a lot to be said for a Princess willing to throw herself into danger for her family and the greater good. Mulan teaches young children to not hide who you are inside and never be afraid to be yourself. When Mulan looks at her reflection, she believes her reflection does not represent who she is inside and therefore she does not recognize the person staring back at her. Despite this, she stays true to who she is and fights for what she believes in.

When Mulan runs away to honor her family name and fight for her country, she ends up surpassing all expectations and saves the life of the Emperor. One of the most powerful quotes from the film is: “The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” Mulan portrays courage and teaches everyone to never shy away from who they truly are.

To commemorate the story of Disney’s Mulan, Eric Dowdle presents the Face in the Mirror wrapped canvas, painting the scene in which the Emperor gifts Mulan with his medallion and Shan Yu's sword as gifts to honor the Fa family. The painting also depicts a full temple in which everyone is bowing down to Mulan to thank her for everything. What is so cleverly done by Dowdle is how all the characters from the film are featured behind the temple: her mother, grandmother and father; Shan Yu; and even Mushu are all detailed within the artwork and signify their role and importance within the story.
