At Art of Entertainment, we carry artwork depicting one of the most iconic Star Wars villains of all time - the mighty Sith Lord and a gifted warrior, Darth Vader. Here are some facts about him that you may not know.

5 Little-Known Darth Vader Facts

  1. Vader's suit is unbearably itchy.
  2. He also has needles stuck in him all the time.
  3. The Dark Lord has claustrophobia due to his suit.
  4. The iconic "I am your father" line was initially kept secret, even from the actors.
  5. Darth Vader was conceived without a father.

Darth Vader Is Surprisingly Itchy

Darth Vader's suit includes a layer of artificial skin that constantly itches to the point that it drives him insane and makes it difficult to sleep. To deal with the unbearable itch, he has to have it scrubbed by droids frequently.

Darth Vader's Suit Embeds Needles In His Skin

Inside his suit and mask, Vader has a series of needles in his skin. Unfortunately, these needles, which transmit neurological data throughout his body and allow him to control his limbs, also cause him constant pain. Between the never-ending itchiness and walking around with needles in his skin, it's no wonder he is so angry.

Darth Vader Has Claustrophobia

In addition to causing content pain and itchiness, the suit is so constricting that it causes him to suffer from claustrophobia. He can only find relief by meditating in specially-constructed pressurized chambers where he can temporarily take off his suit and survive.

The Directors Kept Some Of Darth Vader's Dialogue Secret

Darth Vader's iconic "I am your father" line was such a secret plot twist that the directors kept it hidden from the actors to prevent spoilers from leaking. The original script for A New Hope included the false line, " Obi-Wan killed your father," and they didn't add the actual line until after the rest of the movie had been produced.

Most people incorrectly recall this famous line as "Luke, I am your father" or "I am your father, Luke." However, the Dark Lord's actual words in this scene are "No, I am your father," and the collective false memory can be attributed to the Mandela Effect!

If you're looking for artwork that embodies this influential and iconic Episode IV line, what better option than a limited-edition Darth Vader canvas print of A Son's Destiny by Thomas Kinkade Studios?

Darth Vader Was A "Miracle Child"

Speaking of fathers, Darth Vader was born without one. In The Phantom Menace, Anakin's mother, Shmi Skywalker, attests to Qui-Gon Jinn that "there was no father," which suggests that young Anakin was a product of some immaculate conception stemming from the Force. It seems like a pretty fitting origin story for the Chosen One, doesn't it?
